A Montreal man, 21, pleaded guilty to criminal harassment before Judge Michel Boudreault of the Cour du Québec at the Alma courthouse, Le Nouvelliste reported on November 5. He was originally charged with extortion. The Crown and the defence jointly proposed eight months to be served in the community followed by 18 months of probation. Le Nouvelliste describes him as another accused to plead guilty in the case, after a co-accused who received 12 months in the community.

What Le Nouvelliste Reports Happened

Le Nouvelliste reports that four Montreal men travelled to the Lac-Saint-Jean region to meet a person it describes as close to the drug milieu (“près du milieu des stupéfiants”). They told a man they wanted information on drug sales and would like some names to bring back to leaders (“dirigeants”), the report says. Their plans then changed, and they drove him around the lake against his wishes. At a gas station, the man asked an employee to call police because he feared for his safety.

Le Nouvelliste says the case follows the “guerre des redevances” in the Lac-Saint-Jean region.

Where the Other Cases Stand

One co-accused received 12 months in the community, according to Le Nouvelliste. The case of a second co-accused returns to court on February 17, and the case of a third could be resolved on November 11, the report says.
