Toronto police say one of the three suspects in the Bridle Path home invasion on Hyde Park Circle is Daijohn Richards, 23, of Toronto, and that he was also shot in the right shoulder, which police believe happened when another suspect shot him. Insp. Kristy Smith of the Hold Up squad announced the name on Saturday, October 31, and police released his photo. Global News reports that Richards is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant. The other two suspects have not been identified, and police say all three are considered armed and dangerous.

Who Police Have Named

CP24 reports that police identified one of the three suspects as Daijohn Richards, 23, of Toronto, and released his photo. Police asked anyone who knows where he is to contact investigators, and Smith urged him to contact a lawyer and turn himself in. Addressing him directly, CP24 quotes Smith as saying: “Your world just got smaller.” Police say all three suspects are considered armed and dangerous and that the public should not approach them.

Global News lists the charges against Richards as four counts of discharging a firearm with intent to wound, four counts of robbery with a firearm, three counts of aggravated assault, break and enter, possession of a prohibited device, and disguise with intent. VOCM also reports that he is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

Police Say He Was Shot in the Right Shoulder

CP24 reports that police believe one of the other suspects shot Richards in the right shoulder. Global News quotes Smith as saying: “We believe that he was accidentally shot by one of the other suspects involved in this home invasion.” Smith also said Richards may be experiencing pain or discomfort in that area, CP24 reports.

CP24 reports that Richards went to St. Joseph’s Health Centre for treatment and that hospital staff reported the gunshot wound to police, as Ontario’s mandatory gunshot-wound reporting rules require. Global News reports he went to hospital later on the day of the home invasion.

Why He Was Not Arrested at the Hospital

CP24 reports that Richards was discharged early Friday afternoon and was not arrested because, Smith said, police had not yet established reasonable grounds linking him to the home invasion. “We don’t just go off of suspicion,” Smith said, according to CP24. CP24 reports that investigators connected him to the attack later on Friday evening through forensic work with the Centre for Forensic Science and community canvassing. He remains at large.

The Other Two Suspects and the Motive

Global News reports that police believe the other two suspects are in their 20s; neither has been named. Global News also reports that police do not believe the home was targeted specifically and that Smith said police believe the motive was tied to the affluence of the area. CP24 reports that Smith said investigators will “pursue every single lead that we have” and that residents should expect a continued increased police presence in the neighbourhood.

What Police Say About the Family

Police say three masked suspects armed with handguns and a hammer broke into the home at about 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, confronted the family and demanded valuables, and that multiple firearms were discharged during a violent confrontation. CP24 reports that three of the four people in the home were shot, a 75-year-old man and two women aged 26 and 28, and that the 75-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were also struck with a hammer. Global News reports that all four are expected to survive, that two have life-altering injuries and that some have since been released from hospital. CP24 reports that the attack was the 119th home invasion reported to Toronto police this year, a 32.2 per cent increase over the same period in 2025.
