This site’s briefing of September 22, 2026 recorded two overnight vehicle fires at opposite ends of Toronto and no injuries at either. That was wrong, and it was wrong the morning it was filed. A person was found dead inside each of the two burned-out vehicles, the Toronto Police Service homicide unit was notified that same morning, and the Office of the Fire Marshal took carriage of the cause of both fires. The material below was first reported on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 and is not a story that broke today; it is published here because the earlier account understated what came out of those two cars.
What is new since the September 22 briefing
Three things. A body was recovered from each vehicle. The homicide unit has been notified on both. And the fire marshal, not just the police, is examining how both fires started. Everything the earlier briefing said about locations and about the absence of a police news release still stands; what it recorded as two burned cars is two deaths.

Ninety minutes, thirty-odd kilometres
The first call came in at approximately 11:24 p.m. on Monday, September 21, on Reesor Road between Steeles Avenue East and Old Finch Avenue — the agricultural northeast corner of Scarborough, a stretch of road with no houses on it. A body was found inside the car.
The second came in at about 12:54 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, at James Gardens on Edenbridge Drive, near Royal York Road and Dundas Street West in Etobicoke. Witnesses there told police they saw smoke and heard what sounded like an explosion. A body was found inside that vehicle too.
Police have said it is too early to determine whether the two are related, and that the possibility will be considered. Neither cause of death has been established. Neither victim has been identified publicly.
