Three Criminal Vehicle Fires in Three Days on Both Sides of the River, and Not One Force Will Say They Are Connected: Two More Cars Burn on Rue Rousseau in Vanier at Twenty-Five Past Three in the Morning (September 25, 2026)
Two vehicles burned before dawn on Friday on rue Rousseau, in the Vanier sector of Quebec City, and the Commissariat aux incendies has already said it has reason to believe the fire was criminal. Taken alone it is a small file: two cars, no injuries, no spread, no arrest. Taken with the two nights that preceded it, it is the third vehicle fire of stated criminal origin on the two sides of the St. Lawrence in three days — and no force on either side has said a word about whether they are connected.
What happened on rue Rousseau
Firefighters from the Service de protection contre l’incendie de Quebec and officers of the Service de police de la Ville de Quebec were called to rue Rousseau at around 3:25 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026. Firefighters brought the flames under control quickly; the fire did not spread beyond the two vehicles and nobody was hurt.
SPVQ spokesperson Jean-Sebastien Drouin said the Commissariat aux incendies attended the scene and “has reason to believe that the fire would be of a criminal nature.” An investigation is under way. The force’s Unite d’identification judiciaire and a canine handler were requested to the scene — the latter the standard step where an accelerant is suspected, though no accelerant finding has been published.
The third in three days
On Wednesday, September 23, authorities were called at around 12:50 a.m. to rue J-A Vallee in Levis, on the south shore, for a vehicle fire in an apartment block parking lot; the adjacent building took light heat damage and tenants were evacuated. On Thursday, September 24, at around 6 a.m., a vehicle was damaged by a fire on rue Alfred-Pellan, also in Levis. The Service de police de la Ville de Levis said in both cases that initial observations made an accidental cause unlikely, and that it was too early to say whether either was linked to the drug trade.
Three fires, three overnight or pre-dawn call times, two police forces, one river between them. That is a pattern as a matter of arithmetic. It is not, on the published record, a pattern as a matter of police finding: neither the SPVQ nor the SPVL has connected any of the three to any of the others, and neither has named an organization of any kind.
