He May Have Grown a Beard and He May Be in Toronto: The Sûreté du Québec Reissues Its Wanted Notice for Gianpietro Tiberio, 52, Fourteen Months After He Vanished on Arrest Day (Reported August 21, 2026)
Note the date before anything else: this was reported on Friday, August 21, 2026. It is not a fresh arrest and it is not a fresh charge. It is a police force conceding, in public, that a man it says ordered killings has been beyond its reach for fourteen months — and updating the picture on the poster because he may no longer look the way the old one shows him.
The Sûreté du Québec issued a new wanted notice for Gianpietro Tiberio, 52, sought on charges of murder and attempted murder. The notice carries two operational details worth reading closely. The first is that the SQ believes Tiberio may now be wearing a beard. The second is where the force thinks he might be.
The Toronto Line
The SQ says Tiberio may be somewhere in Quebec, or he may be in the Toronto region. That is not a throwaway. Because of it, the notice was relayed by York Regional Police in Ontario — a Quebec mafia file formally crossing the provincial line and landing in a GTA police service’s public bulletins.
Anyone who spots him is asked to call 911, or the SQ’s criminal information centre at 1 800 659-4264.

Boulevard Provencher, 2012
The allegations reach back fourteen years, to a shooting at Café Domenica-In, then on boulevard Provencher in Montreal. Domenico Facchini was killed. Vito D’Orazio was wounded and survived. Tiberio is alleged to have had a hand in ordering both.
La Presse reports that the gunmen were not actually after either of them. The intended target, according to that reporting, was Alessandro Sucapane, an associate of Giuseppe De Vito — a clan chief in the internal rebellion that ran from 2009 to 2011 against the Sicilian faction that had long held the Montreal mafia’s commanding position. De Vito died of cyanide poisoning at Donnacona penitentiary in 2023. Facchini, in La Presse’s framing, was one of the innocent victims of that war.
Why the File Exists at All
Tiberio is a defendant in Project Alliance, the joint SPVM and Sûreté du Québec investigation built on the cooperation of Frédérick Silva, a former underworld hitman who has been working with the Crown since the summer of 2022.
On June 12, 2025, investigators moved. They arrested a group of people that included influential figures in the Montreal mafia, on murders and conspiracies Silva had confessed to and described. Tiberio was supposed to be among them. He was not there, and he has not been located since.
He is not alone in that. Two other Alliance accused remain outstanding: Mario Sollecito, thought to be in Italy, and Jean-Ismaël Zéphir, believed to have taken refuge in Haiti. The pattern of accused scattering across jurisdictions is the recurring feature of this generation of Montreal prosecutions, and the reason so much of the file now reads as an underworld in exile.
Two fugitives have been brought in since December. Sacha Krolik was apprehended in Dubai; La Presse reports he has still not been repatriated to Quebec. Pierry Philogène was arrested in British Columbia. Zéphir’s side of the Alliance indictment is the one that touches the street-gang end of the network rather than the traditional families.
From a Cafe Shooting to a Reissued Poster
Standing of This File
Date, stated plainly. The reissued notice and the reporting on it are dated Friday, August 21, 2026. There has been no arrest. This file is a status entry, not a break.
What is verified. That the SQ has issued a new wanted notice for Gianpietro Tiberio, 52; that he is sought for murder and attempted murder; that the SQ advises he may now be bearded and may be in Quebec or the Toronto region; that York Regional Police relayed the notice; that he has been unaccounted for since June 12, 2025; that he is an accused in Project Alliance; that Mario Sollecito and Jean-Ismaël Zéphir remain at large; that Sacha Krolik was apprehended in Dubai and Pierry Philogène in British Columbia; and that four Alliance trials are scheduled with the first set for December.
What is reporting, not police statement. The identification of Alessandro Sucapane as the intended target of the 2012 café shooting, and the characterisation of Facchini as an innocent victim of the 2009 to 2011 rebellion. Those come from La Presse, not from an SQ release.
What is missing. The exact charge counts against Tiberio. Whether investigators have any evidence he has left Canada. What the SQ’s basis is for the Toronto-region assessment. The date fixed for his own trial. Whether Krolik’s repatriation from Dubai has a timetable.
What is not claimed. That Tiberio is in Ontario. The SQ said he may be. This file does not upgrade that to a location.
When this will be updated. On any arrest, any repatriation, any charge particulars entering the public record, or the opening of the December trial.
