MARKHAM — Somebody walked to the back of a house near Major Mackenzie Drive East and Angus Glen Boulevard at about twenty past six on a Saturday morning in the middle of August, fired a gun at the property, and then rode away on an electric scooter across the golf course next door. Nobody was hit. The weapons call did not reach York Regional Police until shortly after half past eleven that same morning — roughly five hours after investigators say the shot or shots were fired. Twenty-five days later, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the force released three photographs of the man it wants to identify.

Nobody has been arrested. Nobody has been named. Nothing has been charged.

The Five Hours

The gap between the shooting and the call is the fact that shapes this file. Police responded shortly after 11:30 a.m.; investigators later fixed the discharge at approximately 6:20 a.m. Somewhere in between, a firearm was fired at a house in a residential part of Markham and, on the published timeline, nothing reached 911 for about five hours.

York Regional Police do not explain the gap. The release does not say who ultimately called, does not say whether anyone was home at the time, does not say whether the damage was discovered later in the morning, and does not say whether a neighbour, a resident or a passerby reported it. Every explanation for five silent hours is speculation, and none is offered here. It is simply the most conspicuous thing in the release.

Damage to a Vehicle, and a Firearm Pointed at a Building

Two physical findings are published: evidence of gunfire, and damage to a vehicle. The release does not say how many rounds were fired, does not say whether casings were recovered, does not describe the damage to the vehicle, does not identify the vehicle, and does not say whether the house itself was struck.

What it does say is that the firearm was discharged toward the property from the rear of the residence. A shot fired at the back of a specific house at dawn is not a stray round from elsewhere, and the assignment of the file to the Firearms Investigations Team rather than a district criminal investigations bureau reflects how the force is treating it. York Regional Police have not used the word targeted, and it is not used here.

An E-Scooter Through a Golf Course

The escape is the other distinctive detail. An e-scooter is slow, quiet, unregistered and effectively invisible to a plate reader, and a golf course at 6:20 a.m. in mid-August is open ground with no traffic cameras on it. It is a route chosen by somebody who either knew the neighbourhood or looked at it first. The release does not say which, and does not say where the scooter went after the course.
