“Operation Giant Slalom”: Lawyer & “Gangland” News Operator Arrested

A major U.S. Department of Justice indictment was unsealed Wednesday, charging 10 individuals in a violent drug trafficking and murder conspiracy led by fugitive ex-Olympian Ryan Wedding (44). The network allegedly trafficked massive quantities of cocaine from Colombia to Canada and the U.S.

The “Gang News” Connection

Of particular interest to street gang observers, Gursewak Singh Bal, 31, of Mississauga, was arrested. He is identified as the operator of a “gangland news website” called “The Dirty News.” Prosecutors allege he accepted money to post a photo of a witness to help the criminal organization locate and kill them.

The Lawyer

Prominent GTA criminal defence lawyer Deepak Paradkar, 62, of Thornhill, was arrested and charged with racketeering and conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities allege he advised the drug ring to murder a witness (Jonathan Acebedo-Garcia) to cause a separate drug case to be dismissed.

Edwin Basora-Hernandez (31, of Montreal)
Tommy Demorizi (35, of Montreal) – currently a fugitive
