2Due in court November 3

The Sûreté du Québec said on November 3 that its integrated firearms-trafficking unit was carrying out five searches in the Hautes-Laurentides tied to an investigation into drug trafficking and firearms trafficking, and that four people had been arrested. One of the five searches was at the premises of the Dark Souls on chemin de la Croix in Mont-Laurier, a club the force says is considered a supporter club of the Hells Angels. The force says methamphetamine tablets, cocaine, illicit cannabis, a handgun, cash and alcoholic beverages were seized, and that the searches were still under way when it published the release. Two men, aged 41 and 18, were to appear that day at the Mont-Laurier courthouse; a 63-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were arrested and released and must return to court later. None of the four has been named.

The Five Searches

The force says the searches were carried out at three residences in Mont-Laurier — on rue Laviolette, on avenue des Érables and at Carré-Laurier — at a commercial premises on 12e Avenue in Ferme-Neuve, and at the premises of the Dark Souls on chemin de la Croix in Mont-Laurier. It says the investigation began with information received from the public.

The Sûreté du Québec lists the seizures together for all five searches: methamphetamine tablets, cocaine, illicit cannabis, a handgun, cash and alcoholic beverages. It says the searches were still under way and that the investigation continues.

The Dark Souls Premises

The force’s release states: « Les Dark Souls sont considérés comme un club supporteur des Hells Angels. » That is the Sûreté du Québec’s description of the club, and CFLO uses the same description in its own report of the operation.

The Possible Charges

The Sûreté du Québec says the two men, aged 41 and 18, were to appear on November 3 at the palais de justice de Mont-Laurier and could face charges relating to drug trafficking (« en matière de trafic de stupéfiants »), firearms trafficking and possession of a prohibited firearm. It says the 63-year-old man and the 19-year-old woman were released and must return to court at a later date, and that they could face charges relating to drug trafficking. None of the four has been reported as charged.

The Unit Behind the File

The force credits the Division des équipes intégrées de lutte contre le trafic d’armes à feu, which it says is made up of members of the Sûreté du Québec, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, the Gendarmerie royale du Canada and the Agence des services frontaliers. It says Sûreté du Québec officers from the post serving the MRC d’Antoine-Labelle and from the force’s contraband investigations service also took part. CFLO, the Mont-Laurier station, reported the same operation on November 3 and carried an audio excerpt from Marc Tessier of the Sûreté du Québec.
