York Regional Police say an adult male was shot by an unknown male suspect at a commercial premise near Yonge Street and Bay Thorn Drive in Markham, just south of Highway 407 in the Langstaff neighbourhood, and that officers were called to the area shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. CP24 reports the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, and that the suspect fled the scene. Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety but ask people to avoid the area. CP24 published the account at 2:15 p.m. EDT on October 7. No arrest has been reported, no suspect description beyond “unknown male” has been published, and the account does not say whether police consider the shooting targeted.

What the Account Reports

According to the CP24 account, York Regional Police were called to the area near Yonge Street and Bay Thorn Drive shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The force says the victim was shot by an unknown male suspect at a commercial premise. The man’s injuries are described in the account as “non-life-threatening,” and he was taken to hospital. The suspect fled.

The account quotes no named police spokesperson and carries no direct quotation from the force. It names the York Regional Police Firearms Investigations Team as the contact unit for information, with a tip line and a reference to Crime Stoppers, and does not say which investigators attended the scene or which unit has carriage of the file. Police say in the account that there is “no ongoing threat to public safety,” while asking the public to avoid the area and advising that a heavy police presence is expected during the investigation.

The Two Municipalities in the Same Report

The sources disagree on where the shooting happened, and this briefing chooses neither. On CP24, the same article loads at two web addresses, one with Markham in its slug and one with Richmond Hill. The page headline reads Markham and the subheadline reads Richmond Hill; the body text and image caption place the shooting in Markham. CTV News Toronto carried the item under the Markham headline. No police release has been read that would settle the municipality, and the accounts differ.

What the Account Does Not Say

  • Charges: No person has been arrested or charged, and the account lists no charge.
  • Suspect description: None beyond “unknown male.” No clothing, vehicle or direction of flight is given.
  • The premise: The account calls it “a commercial premise” and does not name the business or give a civic address.
  • Targeted or not: The account does not say whether police consider the shooting targeted.
  • Victim: The account gives no name and no age, describing him only as an adult male.
  • Firearm: No firearm is described as recovered and no firearm type is given.
  • Occurrence number, named officer, quotation: The account carries none of the three.
  • Police release: No York Regional Police release on this shooting appeared on the force’s news page when it was checked on October 8; the only item there dated October 7 concerned a fatal hit-and-run in Vaughan.
