The Man in the Video Now Has a Name and the Charge Sheet Says Conspiracy, Which Means Somebody Else Was in on It: Toronto Police Charge Roshvin Crofton, 24, Over the Scarborough Driveway Arson and Say a Second Suspect Is Still Out There (September 4, 2026)

SCARBOROUGH — Eight days after it released video of a man walking up a driveway with a container of accelerant, the Toronto Police Service has put a name to him. Roshvin Crofton, 24, was arrested on August 30 and faces five counts. The word that changes the shape of this file is on the charge sheet: conspiracy. Investigators are looking for a second suspect.

This is a development on a file Gangland Files last covered on August 28, when the force published its first release and the suspect was still an unidentified figure in surveillance footage. Everything the earlier briefing established about the fire itself stands. What follows is what is new.

The Charge That Was Not There Before

The August 28 release described a single unknown suspect. Friday’s release charges Crofton with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and separately states that investigators are seeking to identify a second suspect believed to have been involved.

A conspiracy count is an agreement between at least two people. Laid alongside an explicit search for a second suspect, it is the force saying on the record that it does not regard this as the work of one man acting alone. That was not the posture of the first release, which described the suspect in the singular throughout.

The Toronto Police Service has still stated no motive. It has not said why the vehicles were targeted, and it has not characterised the fire as connected to the occupant’s work or public role.

Four Days Before the Fire

The most specific new request in the release is the date range. Investigators are not asking where the Sonata was on the night of the arson. They are asking where it was from August 23 onward — four days of movement before anything burned.

Police have not said why that window matters, and this briefing does not speculate on it. It is recorded here because it is the sort of detail that ordinarily reflects something already in the evidence rather than an open-ended appeal.

The Probation Count

One of the five charges is failing to comply with a probation order, which establishes that Crofton was bound by a court order at the time of the alleged offence. The release does not say what the underlying order was for, when it was imposed, or what condition is alleged to have been breached.

The Driveway

The vehicles were parked outside the Scarborough home of Salma Zahid, the Member of Parliament for Scarborough Centre. That was established in the earliest reporting on August 27 and is not new.

What has not changed in nine days is that no police release has stated a motive, offered a theory, or linked the fire to Zahid’s work. Two vehicles were destroyed, a third was damaged, and nobody was hurt. The force has left the question of why entirely open, and none of the three releases in this file has named a criminal organization.
