Casings on the Ground, Holes in the House and Holes in the Car in the Driveway, and Not a Victim or a Suspect Anywhere on the Street: Gunfire Wakes a Dollard-des-Ormeaux Neighbourhood at Eleven at Night (September 4, 2026)

DOLLARD-DES-ORMEAUX — Residents of a quiet street on the western end of the Island of Montreal were woken late on Friday night by gunfire. Several people called 911. When officers reached Lido Street they found spent casings on the ground, bullet holes in a house and bullet holes in a vehicle sitting in its driveway — and nobody at all. No victim, no suspect.

The shooting occurred at around 11 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026 and was first reported on the morning of Saturday, September 5 by The Canadian Press. The SPVM had posted no written communique on the file at time of filing; the force’s account here comes from a spokesperson.

A House and a Car, and Nobody to Attach Them To

“When police arrived on the scene, they did not locate any victims or suspects,” said Caroline Chevrefils, an officer and spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montreal. “Shell casings were found on the ground, and bullet holes were found in a residence and a vehicle in the driveway.”

That is the whole of what the force has established publicly. The circumstances, Chevrefils said, remain unclear. A perimeter was put up to secure the scene for investigators and forensic technicians so they could analyse it and try to understand what had happened.

The Question the Release Does Not Reach

A house and a car in its own driveway were both struck. The force has not said whether anyone was home, has not said whether the address or its occupants were the intended target, and has not used the word targeted at any point.

Nor has it said how many rounds were fired or recovered. The absence of a victim on a street where a residence took gunfire is the single fact that shapes this file, and the SPVM has offered no interpretation of it.

A Note on the Vehicle

The Canadian Press wire copy describes only “a vehicle in the driveway.” Le Journal de Montreal has separately reported that the vehicle struck was a Hummer, a detail the wire does not carry and the SPVM has not confirmed.

It is recorded here as a single-outlet detail, unconfirmed by police, and nothing is built on it.

Not to Be Confused With the Gatineau File

Gangland Files has previously covered a shooting on a street called rue Dollard-des-Ormeaux in downtown Gatineau, roughly two hundred kilometres away and investigated by an entirely different force. That was a broad-daylight shooting in July 2026 with a wounded man and an arrest, handled by the SPVG.
