Peel Police Dismantle International Extortion Network Terrorizing South Asian Businesses

17 Arrested — 106 Criminal Charges — Network Responsible for Half of Illegal Firearm Discharges in Peel Region
Peel Regional Police have arrested 17 men linked to a violent international criminal network known as the “For Brothers” gang, which systematically targeted South Asian business owners across the Region of Peel in an escalating campaign of extortion, arson, and gunfire. The arrests resulted in 106 criminal charges covering extortion, firearms offences, arson, conspiracy, and drug-related crimes.

Investigation Overview

The arrests stem from a sweeping joint investigation launched in December 2025. The suspects are connected to 24 incidents, 16 of which were violent attacks attributed directly to the For Brothers network. The investigation is the latest action by Peel’s Extortion Task Force, which has been active since 2023 and includes approximately 30 officers and analysts.

Modus Operandi

Victims — primarily owners of restaurants and trucking companies in Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon — were threatened and saw their businesses shot at and set on fire after refusing to comply with the gang’s extortion demands.

The 17 accused include individuals from Brampton, Surrey, B.C., and California. Six of those charged may face immigration action following the conclusion of their criminal cases.

International Connections

The probe’s reach extends well beyond the GTA. Chief Duraiappah confirmed the investigation has ties to British Columbia, the United States, and India, with one accused linked to an attempted homicide overseas. Two suspects were arrested from Surrey, B.C., and one from Manteca, California.

CBSA Involvement

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) separately arrested and detained six additional individuals for immigration-related inadmissibility. Three have already been removed from Canada, two remain in CBSA custody, and one has been released on conditions by the Immigration and Refugee Board.

Det. Brian Lorette, who led the investigative team, confirmed that the For Brothers Gang remains a priority. “These groups used violent tactics repeatedly to target victims who refused to comply with extortion demands,” he said. “The investigation remains ongoing and further arrests are anticipated.”
