The Montreal police major crimes unit is investigating the city’s 29th homicide of the year following the death of a 42-year-old man who was injured during a violent altercation in the Sud-Ouest borough early Sunday.

Incident Overview

Police received a 911 call at approximately 3:20 a.m. reporting a fight between two individuals near the Place-Saint-Henri Metro station.

Responding officers located the victim in a wooded area situated between the Metro station and nearby railway tracks. According to police spokesperson Johany Charland, the man had sustained a serious injury to the upper body, believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object.

Victim’s Condition

The victim was initially conscious when police arrived but his condition deteriorated rapidly. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

Suspect and Investigation

Preliminary information indicates the suspect fled the area before officers arrived. A perimeter was established and detectives are working to identify the suspect.

Investigators are expected to interview witnesses throughout the day on Sunday. No arrests have been made at this time.
