Two male youths, aged 15 and 17, were arrested without incident on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 in the armed robbery at Landmark Cinemas at 75 Consumers Drive in Whitby, the Durham Regional Police Service says. This updates our October 28 briefing, which reported that arrest warrants had been issued for two of the four people police believe were involved. Police say both youths are charged with Robbery While Armed with an Offensive Weapon, Aggravated Assault and Disguise with Intent, along with failing to comply with release and youth sentence orders; the 15-year-old is also charged with Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace. Police say both were in violation of release and sentence orders at the time of their arrests. Neither is named, under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

What Police Say Happened

Durham police say officers from Central West Division responded to an armed person call at Landmark Cinemas, 75 Consumers Drive, at about 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026 and located a 15-year-old male with a significant laceration. According to investigators, the 15-year-old had gone to the theatre to meet a female he knew through social media. A group of youths approached him and demanded his jacket, and when he refused, one suspect produced a machete and struck him in the arm. Police say the group then assaulted him and stole his jacket and cash. CP24 reports that he was taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The injured 15-year-old male is the victim and is a different person from the 15-year-old male who is charged.

The Arrests and Charges

Police say investigators identified four suspects and obtained arrest warrants for two of them. Both were arrested without incident on October 28. The 17-year-old male is charged with six counts: Robbery While Armed with an Offensive Weapon, Aggravated Assault, Disguise with Intent, Fail to Comply with a Release Order (two counts) and Fail to Comply with a Youth Sentence Order.
