Durham Regional Police say officers responded to an armed person call at the Landmark Cinemas at 75 Consumers Drive in Whitby at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and found a 15-year-old male with a significant laceration. The force says a group of youths demanded his jacket and, when he refused, one of the suspects produced a machete and struck his arm before the group assaulted him and took his jacket and cash. Police describe the injuries as non-life-threatening and say the victim was treated at the scene by police and paramedics before being taken to a local-area hospital. Durham police published a release on Monday, October 26, 2026 and say arrest warrants have been issued for two of the four people believed to be involved.

The People Police Believe Were Involved

The release says four youths are believed to have been involved. All four are described by the force as youths, and under the Youth Criminal Justice Act none can be named. The release does not say which two of the four the arrest warrants cover.

Durham police say the incident is believed to be isolated and that the investigation is ongoing. The release asks anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Boodhoo of the Central West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520, extension 1805.
