The Correctional Service of Canada Says Tobacco, Cannabis, Shatter, Hashish, MDMA, Edged Weapons, Drug Paraphernalia and Cellphones With an Estimated Institutional Value of $255,740 Were Seized at Collins Bay Institution in Kingston Between October 17 and October 23, in What It Calls a Combination of Suspected Drone Drops and Exceptional Searches, Kingstonist Reports (October 26, 2026)
The Correctional Service of Canada says in an October 26 release that multiple packages of contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Collins Bay Institution on Bath Road in Kingston between Saturday, October 17 and Friday, October 23, and puts their estimated institutional value at $255,740. The agency attributes the seizures to “the vigilance of staff members,” and Kingstonist quotes Mike Shrider, the agency’s regional communications manager, describing them as the result of “a combination of suspected drone drops and exceptional searches within the institution.” The release lists tobacco, marijuana, shatter (a cannabis concentrate), hashish, MDMA, edged weapons, drug paraphernalia, and cell phones and accessories. Kingstonist reports it is the third seizure reported at the institution this month and the 32nd reported there in 2026.
Legal status: No arrests or charges have been reported in connection with these seizures.

Suspected Drone Drops and Searches Inside
Kingstonist quotes Mike Shrider, the agency’s regional communications manager, as saying the seizures came from “a combination of suspected drone drops and exceptional searches within the institution.” Which packages arrived by air and which were found in a search has not been reported, and whether any inmate or other person is under investigation has not been reported either.
Kingstonist reports that the Correctional Service of Canada says it works with police against people who try to bring contraband into its institutions, and gives a toll-free tip line, 1-866-780-3784, which the agency says keeps information protected and callers anonymous.
The Third Reported Seizure of the Month
Kingstonist places this seizure third in October at Collins Bay, after periods running from Friday, October 2 to Wednesday, October 7 and from Sunday, October 11 to Wednesday, October 14.
