The Confrontation and the Furby Street Arrest

The Winnipeg Police Service says Central District General Patrol officers attended a residence in the 100 block of Furby Street and were met at the door by a hostile male who was not involved in the original complaint. The release says officers were eventually granted access to the residence, that the male continued to act in a verbally aggressive manner, and that after he was directed to leave he threatened to slash the tires of the officers’ cruiser. It says officers returning to their vehicle found one of the cruiser’s tires slashed multiple times.

According to the release, a witness provided officers with a description of the suspect and advised that he remained in the area and still had a knife. Officers located the suspect walking on Furby Street, the release says, and he refused to comply and advanced toward them. Conducted energy weapons were deployed and, despite what the force describes as active resistance, he was taken into custody. A knife was recovered and seized as evidence. The force says he remained belligerent and continued to threaten officers while in custody.
