The SPVM Says Seven People Aged 17 to 34 Were Arrested in Two Montreal Boroughs, the Longueuil Agglomeration and Toronto Over Attempted Break-Ins at One Sud-Ouest Residence, and That Robert-Joe Houjeily, 32, and Ayman Tibary, 22, Appeared in Custody at the Montreal Courthouse (October 19, 2026)
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal says five men and two women aged 17 to 34 were arrested last Thursday in the Saint-Laurent and Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce boroughs, the Longueuil agglomeration and the city of Toronto, in connection with attempted break-ins at a single residence in the Sud-Ouest borough on March 9 and 10. The force says the arrests were made in collaboration with the Toronto Police Service and the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil, and that evidence and techniques used by its Groupe projet sud helped trace the suspects. Robert-Joe Houjeily, 32, and Ayman Tibary, 22, were held in custody and appeared at the Montreal courthouse last Friday. Two minors, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared detained before the Chambre de la jeunesse of the Cour du Québec. Three others were released pending the investigation and are not named. The release dates the arrests only as “jeudi dernier” — last Thursday — and gives no calendar date for them.
The Counts
The release says the accused who appeared face several counts, “notamment complot d’introduction par effraction, introduction avec intention de commettre un crime et tentative de commettre un enlèvement” — conspiracy to commit break and enter, break and enter with intent to commit a crime, and attempt to commit kidnapping. The force does not say which count attaches to which of the accused, and the word it uses, “notamment,” indicates the three it lists are not the full set.
The release says the arrests are linked to attempted break-ins on March 9 and 10, 2026. The SPVM says this is the second wave of arrests in the file, and that three other suspects were arrested in May and July 2026.
One Address, Returned To
The release sets out a sequence of events at the same Sud-Ouest residence. On January 28, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., the force alleges that an individual claiming to be delivering a parcel entered the home followed by three accomplices, two of them allegedly armed with firearms; it alleges that one of the armed suspects fired a shot, that one suspect was hit in the abdomen and that the resident suffered a minor arm injury. On March 9, 2026, at about 3:15 a.m., the release says two hooded individuals went to the door of the residence and fled in a vehicle after a security agent challenged them. On March 10, 2026, at about 4 a.m., the release says masked individuals returned in a vehicle, and at about 11:40 p.m. three suspects tried to kick and shoulder in the front door without getting in; no one was injured. On October 7, 2026, at about 1:45 a.m., five masked individuals broke into the residence and fled after an alarm sounded.
The release does not say that the January 28 or October 7 events are among the counts laid, and does not say whether anyone has been charged over them. It does not give a civic address for the residence. It says the investigation continues.
