Manitoba RCMP Say a 32-Year-Old Niverville Man Faces Charges of Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Resist/Obstruct Peace Officer and Weapons Possession Contrary to Order and Fail to Surrender Authorization After Selkirk RCMP Answer a Report of a Man With a Firearm on Lockport Road and He Comes Out of a Building Holding Two Knives (October 16, 2026)
The Manitoba RCMP say that at 9:56 a.m. on October 15, 2026, Selkirk RCMP received a report of an unknown male entering and exiting a residence with a firearm on Lockport Road in the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews. The force says officers found several people by a garage and ordered everyone to exit the building, and that a male who had gone back inside came out holding two knives and advanced toward officers despite repeated demands that he drop them. An officer struck him twice with a 40-mm extended range impact weapon, after which he was arrested without further incident and taken to hospital for minor injuries. A 32-year-old male from Niverville is facing three listed charges and has been remanded into custody. Police have not said whether a firearm was found.
The Three Listed Charges
In the force’s own wording, the 32-year-old is facing possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, resist/obstruct peace officer, and weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization. Police have not said what the order was or when it was made. He is not named by the force, and ChrisD.ca reports that his name was not released.
Separately from those three listed charges, the release says the man also had numerous warrants for his arrest from other jurisdictions and that they were executed. ChrisD.ca reports the same. Neither account says what those warrants were for or how many there are, and they are not charges arising from the Lockport Road call.
Who Else Was There
The force says three people were released without charges: a 58-year-old male and a 57-year-old female from the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews, and a 40-year-old female from Niverville. The release says two females and two males exited the garage when everyone was ordered out, and that one of the males then retreated back inside; ChrisD.ca reports the same.
The Units That Attended
Selkirk RCMP received the report. The force says Red River North RCMP and RCMP Police Dog Services were also called to assist. Selkirk RCMP continues to investigate.
