The Calgary Police Service says District 6 patrol members have arrested two people after officers executed a search warrant on Friday, October 2, 2026 at a residence in the 200 block of Brookpark Drive S.W., in Braeside, and seized 553.7 grams of suspected fentanyl, a KelTec Sub-2000 rifle fitted with a loaded 25-round prohibited high-capacity magazine, a Springfield XD .45-calibre handgun with a defaced serial number, 9 mm ammunition, a drug scale, suspected drug cutting agent, multiple electronic devices and $8,165 in Canadian currency and $30 in U.S. currency the force says it believes to be proceeds of crime. Mujahid Babekir Babekir, 26, and Shane David McWilliam, 57, are each charged with seventeen counts, for 34 in total, the lists being identical. The force says police responded to reports of suspicious activity in the area in July 2026 and describes a three-month-long investigation. The release does not name the unit that ran that investigation or the unit that executed the warrant, and it does not date the arrests separately from the October 2 search. Both men are presumed innocent.

The Seventeen Counts Against Each Accused

The release words the counts, each of which is laid against both men, as one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking; one count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000; two counts of careless storage of a firearm; one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm; two counts of unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited weapon; one count of possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized; one count of possession of a restricted firearm knowing possession is unauthorized; one count of possession of prohibited device/ammunition knowing possession is unauthorized; one count of possession of a loaded restricted or prohibited firearm; one count of possession of restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition; one count of possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number; and four counts of possession of a controlled substance contrary to prohibition order.

That is seventeen counts against each man: 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4, and 34 across the two of them. The release does not group the counts into categories. It does not say which of the seized items any count attaches to, which of the two men any item is attributed to, or what the prohibition order referred to in the four drug counts arose from.

The Search on Brookpark Drive S.W.

The force says police responded to reports of suspicious activity in the area in July 2026, and describes what followed as a three-month-long investigation. On Friday, October 2, 2026 police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Brookpark Drive S.W. The release says the search of that residence resulted in the arrest of two men; it does not state in terms that either man was arrested inside the residence, and it gives no arrest date of its own.

Alongside the drugs, the firearms and the currency, the force lists 9 mm ammunition, a drug scale, suspected drug cutting agent and multiple electronic devices. The force puts the street value of the suspected fentanyl at about $40,000. That figure is a police estimate of value, not an amount of money seized; the money seized is the $8,165 in Canadian currency and $30 in U.S. currency.

McWilliam is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, October 9, 2026 and Babekir on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The release reports no plea, trial or conviction for either man.
