The Service de police de Saguenay received what one of its own spokespeople called a nebulous call at around six o’clock on Monday morning, August 24, 2026. Roughly ten marked cars went to a house on rue des Saules in the arrondissement de La Baie and stayed for hours. By midday eight people had been taken in. The force had confirmed nobody was hurt, no shot was fired and nobody died — and had also said, on the record, that it was studying a theory of forcible confinement and was not ruling out links to organized crime.

Those two sentences sit side by side in the police account and neither has been developed. The Saguenay force told reporters at midday it was not in a position to give further detail on the organized crime question. It has not said which of the two possibilities, if either, the file will end up being.

What the Force Said, and When

The first public statements came while officers were still on scene. Spokesperson Caroline Darveau described the origin of the deployment in plain terms: « On tente encore de déterminer la raison de l’appel, le pourquoi de l’appel et ce qui en a découlé. » Police were still working out why they had been called and what had happened as a result of the call.

Darveau characterised the original report as a nebulous call received around 6 a.m. that required about ten patrol cars to attend. In the same early window the force asked members of the public not to post photographs or video of the operation while it was under way — a request that tells you officers expected the scene to hold for some time.

It did. Coverage through the morning placed police not only on rue des Saules but also on rue des Pins and rue des Érables, the residential streets around it. By early afternoon the operation had been reported as concluded and the house was described as empty.

What Saguenay Police Have Confirmed

  • A citizen call was logged at around 6 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026
  • The address is on rue des Saules in the arrondissement de La Baie, Saguenay
  • About ten patrol cars were required at the scene
  • Officers were also posted on rue des Pins and rue des Érables
  • Eight people were taken in over the course of the morning and were to be questioned
  • « Il n’y a pas eu de blessé, de coup de feu ni de décès dans les évènements » — no injuries, no gunshots, no deaths
  • The theory of a forcible confinement — « la thèse de la séquestration » — is being studied
  • Links to organized crime are not being excluded, but no further detail was available by midday
  • Police asked the public not to publish images or footage of the operation
  • The house was empty by lunchtime and the operation was reported over in the early afternoon

Eight Is the Number That Matters

Taking eight people in from a single address in a single morning is not the shape of a routine call. It is the shape of a scene where officers arrive not knowing who in the building is a complainant, who is a witness and who is a subject, and elect to sort that out at the station rather than at the door. That approach is consistent with a confinement theory, where the distinction between the people inside a house is precisely the thing the first responders cannot yet establish.

It also means that as of Monday afternoon nobody has been named, nobody has been described as arrested rather than detained, and no charge has been announced. The eight are, in the language the force used, people who were taken in and were to be met by investigators.

The Organized Crime Line

The force did not assert a criminal organization. It said one was not excluded. That is a deliberately narrow formulation and it should be read narrowly: it means investigators have not closed the possibility, not that they have evidence they are withholding.

Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean has recently been identified in police reporting as one of the Quebec regions carrying the heaviest load of organized crime violence, alongside the Côte-Nord and the south shore of the Quebec City area. Readers who want background on the groups documented in that broader theatre can consult our files on the Hells Angels in Canada and on the Blood Family Mafia. That is regional context and nothing more. No police force has connected either organization, or any other, to the house on rue des Saules.

Where This File Stands

Verified. The approximate 6 a.m. call on Monday, August 24, 2026; the rue des Saules address in the arrondissement de La Baie, Saguenay; the roughly ten patrol cars; the police presence on rue des Pins and rue des Érables; the eight people taken in; the force’s statement that there were no injuries, no gunshots and no deaths; the statement that the forcible confinement theory is being studied; the statement that organized crime links are not excluded with no further detail available at midday; Caroline Darveau’s quoted remark; the request that the public not publish images; and the reported conclusion of the operation in the early afternoon. Three published accounts opened and read.

Missing. The civic address. The identities, ages and hometowns of the eight. Whether any of them is a complainant rather than a subject. Whether anyone was arrested as opposed to detained. Whether a weapon was involved at any point. What the original caller reported. Whether a search warrant was executed at the house. Which investigative unit has carriage of the file.

Not claimed. That any criminal organization is involved. The Service de police de Saguenay has said only that such a link is not excluded. No group has been named by police, and none is named here. The references to the Hells Angels and the Blood Family Mafia above are regional background drawn from separate reporting and are not attached to this address or these eight people.

Update trigger. Any charge or named accused. Any confirmation or abandonment of the forcible confinement theory. Any statement identifying a criminal organization. Any confirmation that a search warrant was executed or that anything was seized. Any statement on the condition of a possible victim.
