Etobicoke Youth Gunned Down: OPP Homicide Bureau Launches Investigation Into Execution of Tryce James
ETOBICOKE & MIDLAND — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Homicide Investigation Team has unsealed a major murder file following the targeted shooting death of an 18-year-old Etobicoke resident.
The victim, identified by major crime detectives as Tryce James (18) of Etobicoke, was gunned down inside an apartment complex corridor on King Street in Midland. Investigators believe James was targeted in a localized ambush before hitmen fled the perimeter.

Emergency dispatch operators received multiple 911 calls at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, reporting active gunfire echoing through the King Street residential facility. Responding OPP patrol officers located James lying in the corridor with multiple gunshot wounds.
Paramedics provided emergency trauma care before rushing James to a regional medical center, where he succumbed to his injuries. OPP forensic identification teams cordoned off the building, recovering ballistics evidence and analyzing getaway routes used by the shooter.
