Major Drug Network Dismantled in Montérégie

SQ operation targets Hells Angels distribution network across South Shore communities

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) successfully executed a major enforcement phase of a long-term narcotics investigation this week, targeting a drug distribution network with direct ties to the Hells Angels. The operation, coordinated by the Escouade régionale mixte (ERM) Montérégie, resulted in 10 arrests across several municipalities on Montreal’s South Shore.

10 Suspects Arrested in Coordinated Operation

Coordinated Takedown Across the South Shore

On Tuesday, December 16, approximately 50 police officers were deployed in a synchronized series of arrests. The operation targeted individuals in several key Greater Montreal Area (GMA) communities:

Chambly
Belœil
Marieville
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
McMasterville
Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville
Sainte-Madeleine
ERM Montérégie, a joint unit specializing in organized crime, confirmed that the suspects—nine men and one woman—were central to a network responsible for the local distribution of narcotics under the influence of the Hells Angels.

Court Appearances and Legal Action

Following the arrests, the judicial process began immediately for the primary targets:

Immediate Charges:
Five suspects appeared via videoconference late Tuesday and early Wednesday at the Longueuil and Saint-Hyacinthe courthouses. They face multiple counts of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and drug trafficking.
Released on Promise:
The remaining five individuals were released on a promise to appear in court at a later date, pending further evidence processing.
Ongoing Manhunt:
SQ officials noted that while the primary cell has been disrupted, three suspects remain at large and are actively being sought.

⚠️ Ongoing Investigation

Three suspects remain at large in connection with this specific investigation. SQ continues active surveillance and investigative efforts.

Origins of the Investigation

This week’s enforcement is the culmination of an investigation that was initiated in December 2022. The SQ had previously laid the groundwork for these arrests through a series of strategic raids conducted in May and June 2024, which allowed investigators to map the cell’s hierarchy and connection to the motorcycle gang.

The SQ emphasizes that this operation is part of a broader, sustained strategy to suffocate the financial pipelines of outlaw motorcycle gangs (OMGs) in Quebec. By dismantling these localized “sub-cells,” authorities aim to disrupt the flow of drug money that funds the Hells Angels’ larger criminal infrastructure.

Broader Impact

This operation represents a significant blow to organized crime networks in the Montérégie region. The SQ’s sustained approach demonstrates the ongoing commitment to targeting the financial infrastructure that enables criminal organizations to operate. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to pursue remaining suspects and dismantle associated networks.
