The Vehicle Investigation

The release says officers from the 11 Division Community Incident Response Team (CIRT) initiated an investigation involving a vehicle near Martiz Drive and Derry Road West in Mississauga on Monday, Oct. 5, at approximately 5 p.m., for an alleged Cannabis Control Act violation. It says that during the investigation officers located suspected drugs inside the vehicle.

Following the arrests, the release says, a search of the vehicle “resulted in the seizure of a loaded 9mm Glock handgun equipped with a prohibited 15-round magazine.” It adds that officers “also seized more than 79 grams of suspected drugs, including fentanyl, heroin, crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine,” along with $1,260 in Canadian currency.

The Charges Against Ibrahim Abdul Hasan

Hasan, 21, of Toronto is charged, in the force’s own wording, with Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized; Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition; Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle; Possession of a Prohibited Device; Carrying a Concealed Weapon; and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking X4. The release lists the trafficking charge as “Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking X4”. Counting that entry as four, that is twelve counts by a tally of the listed charges (eight, plus four).

The Charges Against the Young Person

The 17-year-old Young Person faces the same nine entries as Hasan, the first eight listed above and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking X4, and, in addition, Possession Contrary to Order X5; Failure to Comply with Order X3; Failure to Comply with Sentence or Disposition; and Having Care or Control of a Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available. Counting each “X” notation as that many counts, that is twenty-two counts by a tally of the listed charges (eight, plus four, plus five, plus three, plus one, plus one), for a combined tally of thirty-four.

What the Force Says

Deputy Chief Marc Andrews is quoted in the release saying: “Investigations like this demonstrate the importance of proactive enforcement in addressing the dangers posed by illegal firearms and drug trafficking.
