The Canada Border Services Agency intercepted six attempts to bring weapons into Canada at the Gordie Howe International Bridge in Windsor, Ontario, Windsor News Today reported on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The six seizures the outlet itemises fall on October 3, 5 and 6, and between them produced three prohibited firearms, two prohibited knives, brass knuckles, pepper spray, a magazine and 126 rounds of ammunition by a tally of the listed seizures. Five of the six involved a U.S. resident or an American traveller and one involved a Canadian resident. Windsor News Today says a CBSA spokesperson told it that firearms, knives and pepper spray were confiscated at the bridge, and mentions no criminal charge.

The Six Seizures as Windsor News Today Lists Them

Windsor News Today’s opening paragraphs describe the interceptions as within three days and during the first weekend in October; the dates it itemises are October 3, 5 and 6. The outlet itemises each interception separately, with the date, what was taken and the penalty where one was paid. The first came on Saturday, October 3, when officers seized a prohibited knife from a U.S. resident who paid a $500 fine. On Monday, October 5, officers seized a prohibited firearm, a magazine and 61 rounds of ammunition from an American traveller, who was fined $1,500.

The remaining four all fall on Tuesday, October 6. Officers seized a prohibited firearm and five rounds of ammunition from a U.S. resident who paid a $1,000 penalty; a prohibited firearm and 60 rounds of ammunition from an American traveller who was fined $1,000; pepper spray, brass knuckles and eight grams of cannabis from a U.S. resident; and a prohibited knife from a Canadian resident. Windsor News Today lists no fine for the last two of those.

The Wider Figure the Outlet Reports

Windsor News Today also reports that in a social media post on Thursday the CBSA said agents at points of entry across southern Ontario had seized nine firearms and eight prohibited weapons over eight days, and that none of the items had been declared. Windsor News Today does not give a calendar date for that post, and does not say which crossings the nine firearms came through.
