2Men Charged
2Firearms Seized
10Offences Listed Against Each Man
5Loaded Magazines Seized

The Halton Regional Police Service says officers executed a search warrant at a North York residence on October 1, arrested two men inside, and seized a stolen Glock 17 handgun with three loaded magazines, a Norinco Type 56 rifle with two loaded magazines, and a spring-assisted knife the force describes as a prohibited device. Iraklii Shariia, 38, of North York and Davit Kukhilava, 47, of North York have each been charged with the ten offences the release lists, and Kukhilava was also charged with possession of a prohibited device. The release ties the two men to a break-in at a parked vehicle in Milton on September 2 and a theft of cash at Elements Casino in Milton on September 3, and credits investigators with the 1 District Street Crime Unit with identifying both men as working together in both thefts. Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing. The force published the file on Thursday, October 8, 2026, seven days after the warrant. The release does not say what amounts of cash were taken, does not tie either seized firearm to the thefts beyond stating that the handgun was stolen, and names no criminal organization, street gang or outlaw motorcycle club.

The Two Thefts, as the Release Describes Them

The force sets out two incidents a day apart. On September 2, the release says, the two accused broke into a parked vehicle in Milton and stole cash, other valuables and a watch. On September 3, it says, the same two went to Elements Casino in Milton and stole cash from a guest services drawer, and fled when casino security confronted them.

The release says investigators with the 1 District Street Crime Unit identified both accused as working together in both thefts. It does not describe how that identification was made, and it does not set out the grounds for the search warrant that followed.

No amount is published for the cash taken from the vehicle, no value is published for the watch or the other valuables, and no amount is published for the cash taken at the casino. CP24, which carried the file the same day, records the vehicle haul only as an unspecified amount.

The Search Warrant and the Firearms

On October 1, the release says, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in North York. The two suspects were arrested inside the residence, and the following items were seized: a stolen Glock 17 handgun with three loaded magazines, a Norinco Type 56 rifle with two loaded magazines, and a spring-assisted knife, which the release identifies in brackets as a prohibited device. Police also recovered items stolen in the Milton vehicle break-in, the release says.

The release describes the magazines as loaded. It does not describe either firearm as loaded, and this briefing does not say that either was. The handgun is the only one of the two the release describes as stolen; it gives no trace result, no serial number and no statement of where or when it was stolen from. No ammunition count is published for either weapon beyond the magazine count, and no calibre is given for the rifle.

The Charge List

The release introduces the charges with a single sentence covering both men: Iraklii Shariia and Davit Kukhilava “have each been charged with the following.” Three of the ten listed offences carry two counts each in the release’s own wording; the remaining seven are listed without a count. One further charge is attributed to one man alone: the release says Kukhilava was also charged with possession of a prohibited device.

The release does not say which seized item each count attaches to, does not say which of the two firearms is the subject of the prohibited-firearm count or the restricted-firearm count, and does not say which accused, if either, is alleged to have had either weapon. None of that is stated here.

Charges as the Release Words Them

  • Against each accused: Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts each)
  • Against each accused: Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (two counts each)
  • Against each accused: Contravention of storage regulations (two counts each)
  • Against each accused: Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Against each accused: Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Against each accused: Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
  • Against each accused: Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
  • Against each accused: Possession of a weapon obtained by a criminal offence
  • Against each accused: Theft over $5,000
  • Against each accused: Theft under $5,000
  • Against Kukhilava alone: Possession of a prohibited device

The Theft Counts and the Word Robbery

The charges the force published are theft-related, including Theft over $5,000 and Theft under $5,000. The release does not use a robbery charge.

What the Release Does Not Publish

  • Amounts: no figure for the cash taken from the vehicle, the value of the watch or other valuables, or the cash taken at the casino.
  • Times: no time of day for either theft, and no time of publication for the release itself.
  • Addresses: no civic address for the North York residence and none for the Milton vehicle.
  • Court: no court date and no bail outcome beyond “held in custody pending a bail hearing.”
  • File number: no occurrence, incident or case number appears in the release.
  • Officers: no officer is named and no one is quoted; the release gives a 1 District Street Crime Unit telephone extension for tips.
  • Prior orders: the release makes no mention of bail, release orders, probation orders or firearms prohibition orders for either accused.
  • Organization: no gang, outlaw motorcycle club, crime family, syndicate or cartel is named.

Iraklii Shariia and Davit Kukhilava are presumed innocent. Neither has entered a plea and none of the charges has been tested in court; the release reports no plea, trial or conviction. Every allegation here is the Halton Regional Police Service’s, as its October 8 release words it, with the publication time and one further detail attributed to CP24. The release names no gang, outlaw motorcycle club, crime family, syndicate or cartel, and none is named or implied here. The thefts occurred in Milton and the search warrant was executed in North York, both inside the Greater Toronto Area. No publication ban is mentioned in either source.
