The RCMP say Alaaddin Koc, 56, a resident of Windsor, Ontario, pleaded guilty on July 27, 2026 to Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Exportation and on September 21, 2026 received a one-year prison sentence and a lifetime firearms prohibition. The RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region says the case began on October 28, 2024, when the Canada Border Services Agency stopped him at Vancouver International Airport and seized approximately 31 kilograms of cannabis from his luggage, and describes him as attempting to smuggle it through the airport to London’s Heathrow Airport. The release says he was released pending investigation, failed to appear in court on charges under the Cannabis Act, which prompted a Canada-wide arrest warrant, and was subsequently found in Ontario. The RCMP published the account on Monday, October 5, 2026. The release names no criminal organization and gives no court location.

Why This Sits on the Beat

Richmond, British Columbia is outside this site’s primary footprint, so the file needs a concrete qualifier, and it has one: a quantity. The release puts the seizure at approximately 31 kilograms of cannabis, above the one-kilogram threshold. The CBSA seized it and the Federal Policing Pacific Region Border Integrity team made the arrest; the force acknowledges support from Richmond RCMP, the Windsor Border Integrity team and Windsor Police Services, which assisted and are not offered as the qualifier.

This is a thin qualifier, and the file is marked marginal for that reason. The Border Integrity team is a federal border enforcement team and is not presented here as an anti-gang or organized-crime unit. The release names no project and no organization. The lifetime firearms prohibition is not a firearm qualifier: the release mentions no firearm and does not say why the prohibition was imposed. One man is the accused, and the court development is a plea and sentence on a single seizure.

What the Release Describes

The release says the CBSA stopped the accused at Vancouver International Airport on October 28, 2024 and seized approximately 31 kilograms of cannabis from his luggage. Federal Policing Pacific Region Border Integrity team members responded and arrested Koc, who the release describes as a 56-year-old resident of Windsor, Ontario. The release does not separately date the arrest.

The release says he was released pending investigation, that he faced charges under the Cannabis Act but failed to appear in court, and that this prompted a Canada-wide arrest warrant. It says he was subsequently found in Ontario and does not date the warrant or the arrest on it.

Staff Sergeant Rhonda Hislop, Acting Officer-in-Charge of the Border Integrity Program (Air & Marine), is quoted: “The outbound flow of illicit drugs is a continued focus of multiple international partners.” The release attributes to her an emphasis on the CBSA’s role in enforcement.

The Plea and the Sentence

The release says that on July 27, 2026, Koc pleaded guilty to Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Exportation, and that September 21, 2026 brought a one-year prison sentence and a lifetime firearms prohibition. The stage is conviction and sentence, not allegation. The release does not name a court, judge or Crown, and gives no file number.

What the Release Does Not State

  • Court details: no court location, judge, Crown or file number appears.
  • The firearms prohibition: the release does not say why it was imposed or under what provision, and mentions no firearm.
  • Valuation: no dollar figure is published for the approximately 31 kilograms of cannabis.
  • Charges laid: the release says only that he faced charges under the Cannabis Act; it does not list them, and gives the offence of the plea as Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Exportation.
  • Warrant dates: the release does not date the failure to appear, the Canada-wide warrant or the arrest on it.
  • Co-accused: the release names only Koc and does not say whether anybody else was charged.
  • Organization: the release names no criminal organization, street gang, outlaw motorcycle club or cartel.

Alaaddin Koc has pleaded guilty and been sentenced; the legal stage on this file is conviction and sentence, stated as the RCMP states it. The release names no criminal organization, street gang, outlaw motorcycle club or cartel, and no such label is used here. The beat qualifier for this file, which lies outside the primary footprint, is the approximately 31 kilograms of cannabis; it is a thin one, as the beat section says. A search for the accused’s name and the offence made on October 5, 2026 found no outlet account, so the RCMP release is the source. The release mentions no publication ban.
