The Groupe d’intervention en violence urbaine of the Service de police de Saguenay arrested a man in his forties at a residence in the Jonquière borough of Saguenay on Thursday, October 1, 2026, and seized two firearms, cocaine, crack, GHB, crystal methamphetamine, hallucinogenic mushrooms and cash, according to CKAJ and Le Quotidien. CKAJ reports 25 grams of cocaine and says the unit carried out a search of the residence on Thursday morning; Le Quotidien reports approximately 25 grams and says the man was arrested at his residence. CKAJ also lists multiple methamphetamine tablets. CKAJ reports the man will face charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, recel and negligent storage of firearms; Le Quotidien says he could face those charges, so the two accounts differ on whether the charges have been laid, and neither is preferred here. Le Quotidien reports he was released by summons. Neither account names him, and neither names a criminal organization, street gang or outlaw motorcycle club. He is presumed innocent. Both accounts were published Friday, October 2.

What the Two Accounts Report

CKAJ attributes the operation to « la division du Groupe d’intervention en violence urbaine du Service de police de Saguenay (SPS) », which it says « a effectué jeudi matin une perquisition dans une résidence de Jonquière ». Le Quotidien names the unit as the « Groupe d’intervention en violence urbaine de Saguenay », says it made an arrest on Thursday, and says the suspect was « interpellé à sa résidence à Jonquière ». Le Quotidien does not use the word search and gives no time of day; CKAJ gives none beyond the morning. Thursday before publication was October 1, 2026. Neither account gives a street or a civic address.

On the seizure the two accounts agree on two firearms, cocaine, crack, GHB, crystal methamphetamine and mushrooms. CKAJ gives the cocaine as 25 grams and Le Quotidien as « environ 25 grammes », approximately 25 grams. CKAJ calls the mushrooms « champignons magiques » and Le Quotidien « champignons hallucinogènes ». CKAJ additionally reports « de multiples comprimés de métamphétamines », multiple methamphetamine tablets, which do not appear in the Le Quotidien account. On the cash the accounts differ: CKAJ reports « une somme d’argent représentant 600 $ », Le Quotidien reports « plus de 600 $ ». Both figures are recorded here and neither is chosen. Cocaine is the only substance to which either account attaches a weight.

The Charges and the Stage They Are At

CKAJ says the arrested man « fera face à des accusations de possession de drogues dans le but d’en faire le trafic, de recel, de même qu’une accusation d’entreposage négligent d’armes à feu » (will face charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, recel, and a charge of negligent storage of firearms). Le Quotidien says he « pourrait faire face à des accusations de possessions de stupéfiants en vue d’en faire le trafic, de recel et d’entreposage négligent d’armes à feu » (could face charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, recel and negligent storage of firearms). Recel is the French Criminal Code term for possession of property obtained by crime. The accounts name three offences; neither gives a number of counts, and CKAJ specifies a single negligent-storage charge. Whether the charges have been laid or are charges he could face is a difference in legal stage, reported here rather than resolved. Neither outlet is a police release, so the wording above is the outlets’ account and not the force’s own.

Le Quotidien reports, in quotation marks, that « il a été libéré par voie de sommation »: he was released by summons. CKAJ does not state a custody or release status. Every allegation in this file rests on the two outlet accounts; the man has not been named by either, nothing has been tested in court, and he is presumed innocent.

What the Two Accounts Do Not Carry

  • The accused: Neither account names him. Both put him in his forties: Le Quotidien « dans la quarantaine », CKAJ « âgé dans la quarantaine ».
  • The two firearms: Neither account describes either weapon by type, make, model, calibre or loaded status, and neither says whether either was restricted or prohibited.
  • The negligent storage charge: Neither account states which of the two firearms the charge is said to concern, or how they were stored.
  • Weights and values: Only the cocaine carries a weight. No weight, count or street value is reported for the crack, the GHB, the crystal methamphetamine, the methamphetamine tablets or the mushrooms.
  • The recel charge: Neither account identifies the property said to have been received, or ties it to anything in the seizure list.
  • Procedure: No street or civic address, no time beyond CKAJ’s « jeudi matin », no occurrence or file number, no court date and no named officer appears in either account. Le Quotidien puts the seizure list and the release by summons in quotation marks without naming who is being quoted, and carries the force’s tip line, 418-699-6000, and the address info.police@ville.saguenay.qc.ca. CKAJ cites no source for its account.
  • Prior orders: Neither account says whether the man was bound by a firearms prohibition order or any other court order at the time of his arrest.
  • No release located: No communiqué from the Service de police de Saguenay on this operation could be located on the force’s website, and the force’s own account of the file has not been read.

Why This Sits on the Beat

Jonquière is outside the primary footprint of this beat. The concrete feature that puts the file on it is the firearm count: two firearms were seized, and a negligent storage of firearms charge is reported against the arrested man. The file was worked by a named unit, the Groupe d’intervention en violence urbaine of the Service de police de Saguenay, which both accounts identify by name. Those are the checkable features relied on here. No gang, club, family or cartel label is used, because neither account uses one.

Legal and beat note: the man arrested has not been named by either outlet, no charge reported here has been tested in court, and he is presumed innocent. The accounts differ on whether the charges have been laid or are charges he could face, and that difference is recorded rather than resolved. Every allegation above is attributed to the two outlet accounts; no release from the Service de police de Saguenay was read, so the charge wording is the outlets’ and not the force’s own. No criminal organization, street gang, outlaw motorcycle club, crime family or cartel is named by either account, and none is attached here. The beat qualifier for this file outside the primary footprint is the two firearms seized, with the reported negligent storage of firearms charge, and the named unit that carried out the operation. Neither account mentions a publication ban.
