More Than a Kilogram of Cocaine Came Out of a Car Stopped at Five Past Two in the Morning, and the Only Person Charged With It Was Already Out on Release Conditions: Suzie McKenzie, 36, Faces Three Counts While the Two People Arrested With Her Were Taken on Other Forces’ Warrants (October 1, 2026)
More than one kilogram of suspected cocaine, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia came out of a traffic stop at Stanley Mission, Saskatchewan, at approximately 2:05 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Three people were arrested. Only one of them has been charged in connection with the drugs: Suzie McKenzie, 36, of Sucker River, who faces one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine under section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and two counts of failing to comply with release order conditions under section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code. The other two were taken on outstanding warrants from two other RCMP detachments. The RCMP published the file five days after the stop. Every allegation is a police and Crown allegation, and each of the three is presumed innocent.
A kilogram, and the charge sheet that follows it
A kilogram of cocaine is a commercial quantity by any measure, and it is the reason this file is on the beat. What the release does with it is narrower than the number suggests. The weight is published only as “over one kilogram” of suspected cocaine — an exact figure in grams is not given, and the substance is described as suspected, meaning analysis is not stated to be complete. Cash was seized and no amount is published. Drug trafficking paraphernalia was seized and nothing in it is itemised: no scales, no packaging, no ledgers, no phones are named, and no count is given.
Against that sits a three-count information. Suzie McKenzie, 36, of Sucker River is charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine, section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and two counts of failing to comply with release order conditions, section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code. She appeared in court at La Ronge on September 28, 2026, two days after the stop, under Information #90648461.
Two of her three counts, then, are for breaching conditions she was already under before the night of the stop. What those conditions were, what file imposed them, and when, are not published. Nor is there a trafficking count attached to anyone else, which leaves a kilogram of cocaine in a vehicle and a single person charged with possessing it for the purpose of trafficking. No proceeds-of-crime count appears on the file either, despite the cash.
The two arrested on other detachments’ warrants
The two other people arrested at the stop were not charged on this file at all. Erica McKenzie, 33, also of Sucker River, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from the Waskesiu RCMP for flight from police. Jason Roberts, 29, of Stanley Mission, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from the Stanley Mission RCMP for break and enter.
Both were therefore taken on pre-existing matters that have nothing to do, in the published record, with the cocaine. The release does not say whether either faces any charge arising from the stop itself, and no count against either is published here. Whether the two McKenzies are related is not stated in the release and is not assumed here on the strength of a shared surname and a shared home community.
Three detachments, one roadside, and a line about patrols
Three RCMP detachments appear on the file: La Ronge RCMP, whose officers the release credits; Stanley Mission RCMP, which conducted the stop and held one of the warrants; and Waskesiu RCMP, which held the other. No federal unit, no provincial organized-crime unit and no joint-forces team is named anywhere on it.
The only officer quoted is S/Sgt. Derek Eberle of the La Ronge RCMP, in three sentences: “Proactive patrols are an important part of how we keep our communities safe. In this case, what began as a traffic stop resulted in officers intercepting a significant quantity of dangerous illicit drugs before they could circulate in the community. This is a clear example of how proactive policing can have a direct impact on community safety.”
That is the force’s framing of the file, and it is worth reading closely: a patrol that found something, rather than an investigation that concluded. Eberle calls it “what began as a traffic stop,” and no investigation is described as having preceded it — no surveillance is mentioned, no search warrant is referenced, and no project name is given. What prompted the stop at five past two in the morning is not published. The phrase “a significant quantity” is the only characterisation of the weight the release offers beyond “over one kilogram.”
The force has not attached any criminal organization, gang or trafficking network to this file. A kilogram of cocaine moving through northern Saskatchewan invites the question; the RCMP has not answered it and it is not answered here.

This file sits outside the primary footprint of this beat and is reported because more than a kilogram of cocaine is a commercial-scale seizure, which is on the beat in any province. The charges set out above are allegations by police and the Crown. Suzie McKenzie, 36, has been charged and has appeared in court; she has not pleaded, has not been tried and has not been convicted, and she is presumed innocent. Erica McKenzie, 33, and Jason Roberts, 29, were arrested on outstanding warrants from other detachments and no charge arising from this stop is published against either; they are likewise presumed innocent on those outstanding matters, and their arrests should not be read as connected to the cocaine. The charge wording and statutory sections above are reproduced as the RCMP published them, and the Eberle quotation is reproduced in full rather than trimmed. No criminal organization offence has been laid on this file, and no criminal organization, street gang or outlaw motorcycle club has been named by the RCMP in connection with it; none is implied here.
