Forty-Two Days After He Was Shot in the Face Walking to Work, the Man Has a Name and the Street Has Another Set of Bullet Holes: Edward Chikosa Is Identified as the Kipling and Finch Victim, and a Neighbouring Doorway on Silverstone Drive Was Hit on Sunday Night (September 29, 2026)
Follow-up to this site’s August 18, 2026 briefing on two shootings in one pocket of Rexdale. The man found with a gunshot wound that morning has been identified for the first time, by himself rather than by police: Edward Chikosa, a generator technician and father of two, who was shot in the face on his way to work and who says he has no connection to anyone who would be shot at. The second thing this report establishes is newer and harder — on Sunday night, six weeks later, a home next to his took rounds through the doorway.
Jon Woodward of CP24 published the account on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 9:17 a.m. Eastern and updated it at 1:43 p.m. It is an interview with the victim, not a police release, and no Toronto Police Service spokesperson is named or quoted anywhere in it.
What Changes in the Record
This site filed the August 18 shooting as occurring at Kipling Avenue and Finch Avenue West at 7:37 a.m., with two suspects fleeing northbound on Silverstone Drive. The account published today places the shooting itself outside 55 Silverstone Drive at approximately 7:30 a.m. That is not a contradiction so much as a resolution: Silverstone Drive runs in that pocket between Kipling and Finch, and what was originally reported as the suspects’ direction of flight is where the reporting now puts the scene. The intersection given in the first hours was the nearest major cross-streets, which is how Toronto Police Operations postings describe locations.
Four further things enter the record that were not in it on August 18: the victim’s identity; the nature of his wound; the account that he was not the intended target; and the second shooting.
New in This Report
- The victim. Edward Chikosa, a generator technician and father of two. His age is not published.
- The wound. A bullet entered the left side of his face, damaging his jaw and teeth and missing the structures that would have killed him. He underwent surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
- The shooters. Two people with their faces covered fired on him as he walked to work, then fled in a black SUV — consistent with what was reported on the day.
- Mistaken identity. Chikosa says he was not the intended target. Police, as reported, did not dispute that he was likely an innocent victim. No force has issued that characterisation in writing.
- The second shooting. On Sunday night a neighbouring home was shot at, leaving bullet holes in the doorway. Nobody was hurt. No address, no time of night, no round count and no occurrence number has been published for it.
- The neighbourhood count. Six shootings in Mount Olive-Silverstone-Jamestown so far in 2026.
What Chikosa Said
“I consider this a miracle. It’s just a miracle that I’m still here,” he told CP24 of surviving the shot. Of the second incident beside his home: “This is traumatizing. Two times in just a month? Twice already.” On who he is: “I’m not a gangster. Never been one. Not an affiliate. I’m a family man.” And on what he wants: “This should be a state of emergency.”
That third sentence is doing work that no police document in this file has done. Forty-two days after the shooting, the public record contains no statement from the Toronto Police Service about whether the August 18 attack was targeted, no suspect description beyond two covered faces and a black SUV, and no news release. The only person who has told the public anything about who Edward Chikosa is, is Edward Chikosa.
The Political Response
Two Ward 1 candidates, Ala’a Adib and Chloe Brown, are quoted in the report. Ward 1 Councillor Vince Crisanti was contacted and did not respond. No provincial or federal figure appears.
What This File Is Not
No criminal organization, street gang or outlaw motorcycle club has been named by police in connection with the August 18 shooting or with the shooting on Sunday night. Nothing here alleges that either was gang-related, and the victim’s own statement on the point is reproduced above because he made it, not because it requires corroboration. Any statement from the force as to whether either shooting is considered targeted, whether the two are connected, or whether either is connected to the Humberline and Upper Humber gunfire in August.
What is not claimed. That the two shootings on Silverstone Drive are linked; that either is gang-related; that the police have adopted the mistaken-identity account in any document; or that anyone is responsible for anything.
When this will be updated. On any arrest, any charge, any Toronto Police Service release on either incident, any suspect description, or any statement linking or separating the two.
