HAMILTON — A teenage boy and a teenage girl were shot on Friday afternoon in the area of Cochrane Road and Lawrence Road in Hamilton’s east end. Both survived with injuries police describe as non-life-threatening. A male in his late teens is under arrest and a second suspect is outstanding, with no description released for him. Three elementary schools went into hold-and-secure and have since been released. Seven hours after the first report, the Hamilton Police Service has not posted a word about any of it.

Two Accounts of Where It Happened, and They Do Not Agree

The police account, carried by CP24 and CTV News Toronto, places the call at around 2 p.m. and the scene in a hydro corridor in the area of Cochrane and Lawrence Roads.

The account gathered on the street by CHCH does not sit on top of that. Staff at businesses across the road said they heard what sounded like multiple shots at around 2:30 p.m. — half an hour after the time police gave for the call. A resident told the station he went to help a wounded man inside a building, and that the man said he had been shot in the leg in the parking lot of the apartment building. Residents said nobody was being allowed in or out of that building while officers worked.

A hydro corridor and an apartment parking lot are not the same place, and 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. are not the same time. Neither account is necessarily wrong — corridors run behind buildings, and a wounded person moves — but nothing published so far reconciles them, because the only party who could reconcile them has not spoken on the record.

No Release, on a Day the Newsroom Was Working

This is not a service that went quiet on Friday. The Hamilton Police Service newsroom carries a release timestamped 7:36 a.m. on September 18, about an arrest following an overnight stabbing on Main Street West under case number 26-768441. That is the newest item on the page. A double shooting that closed three schools and drew a daytime perimeter in the east end has produced nothing since.

The practical effect is that every hard identifier a reader would use to follow this file into court does not exist yet. There is no case number. There is no name or precise age for the arrested male, no statement of what he has been charged with, and no indication of whether he has been held for a bail hearing. The victims’ ages are known only as “teenage.” No investigating unit has been named — not a division, not the BEAR unit, not Major Crime. No firearm has been reported recovered.
