DUNDAS, Ont. — Hamilton Police published the results of a September 4 shooting investigation on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 10:18 a.m., and the line that carries the most weight is not in the charge list. It is in the property list. When investigators went through a door on September 8, they came out with several firearms, ammunition, and — the phrase is the service’s own — armoured plating and tactical equipment.
The occurrence itself reads as a short, loud evening. Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, officers were sent to reports of gunfire in the area of John Prentice Park, near Renata Court, in Dundas. They found three males near a wooded section of the park. Two were arrested close by. The third ran, and the release does not say how far he got before he was out of sight.
The file then went to the Shooting Response Team, with assistance from Divisional Criminal Investigations, and that team reached a conclusion the original call could not have supplied on its own: a firearm had been discharged multiple times. A Warrant Is Not a Consequence of an Arrest. It Is a Consequence of Four Days of Work.
Two men were in custody by the evening of September 4. The search warrant was not executed until September 8. Those four days are the part of this file that did not get published, and they are the part that produced everything interesting in it.
A warrant for a residence requires a sworn information to obtain, and that document has to connect a specific address to a specific offence on grounds a justice will accept. Nothing in the September 4 scene — three men beside a wooded area, two of them arrested on the spot — supplies an address on its own. The geography is the other thing. Oakville is roughly forty kilometres east of Dundas along the lake. Thornbury is on Georgian Bay, a drive of about a hundred and sixty kilometres north. Dundas is the shooting. The only one of the three with a stated Dundas address is the one who ran into the trees and has not been located since.
That pattern — local man, out-of-town company, firearms recovered days later from a separate address — is a shape that recurs on this beat.
