Fifty Grams of Meth, a Homemade Taser and a Camper Trailer That Belonged to Somebody Else: The OPP’s East Region Street Crime Unit Closes a Harrowsmith Warrant With Timothy Reid, 38, Facing Eight Counts (August 24, 2026)

This one did not start as a drug file. The Ontario Provincial Police opened it earlier in August as an investigation into stolen property in South Frontenac Township, gave it to the East Region Community Street Crime Unit, and ended it on Friday, August 21, 2026 with a search warrant that produced methamphetamine, fentanyl, a weapon somebody had built by hand, and a yard’s worth of other people’s vehicles. The release came out Monday, August 24.

The OPP’s own release did not say where the residence was. It said South Frontenac Township, which covers a large stretch of rural Frontenac County north of Kingston and contains several distinct hamlets. Kingstonist put the question to the force and Sergeant Erin Cranton, Media Services Coordinator for OPP East Region, confirmed the address is in Harrowsmith. That detail exists in the public record only because a reporter asked for it.

Three Units for One Door

The composition of the entry team is the part of this file worth reading closely. A property-crime warrant at a rural residence does not automatically draw an emergency response unit. This one did.

The warrant was carried by the East Region Community Street Crime Unit — the plainclothes body the OPP uses for street-level drug and property work across its eastern detachments — with the assistance of the East Region Emergency Response Unit and members of the Frontenac County OPP. The force has not said what prompted the tactical component, and no firearm appears anywhere in the seizure list.

Two grams of fentanyl is a small number that carries a large one behind it. At the doses the drug is cut to for street sale it represents a great many individual hits, which is why the OPP charges it as trafficking rather than possession even in quantities that would look trivial in any other substance. The 50 grams of methamphetamine is the bulk of the weight, and the assorted pills are the piece the force has not characterised at all — no count, no identification, no indication of whether they are pharmaceutical or pressed.

The Homemade Weapon

The item the OPP chose to photograph for the release is not a drug. It is a conducted energy weapon somebody assembled themselves — a taser, in the force’s own gloss. Conducted energy weapons are prohibited devices in Canada outside law enforcement, and a homemade one is prohibited twice over: it is a prohibited class of device and it has no lawful provenance.

That single object generates two of the eight counts on Reid’s sheet. He is charged with possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, and separately with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The second charge is the more consequential of the two, because it requires the Crown to establish intent rather than mere possession.

The Two Charge Sheets

Timothy Reid, 38, of South Frontenac Township carries the weight of the file. He is charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime with a value over $5,000, one count of the same offence under $5,000, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and three counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking. Eight counts in total, spanning property, weapons and drugs.

The three trafficking counts correspond to the three drug categories seized: methamphetamine, fentanyl and the assorted pills. Both methamphetamine and fentanyl sit in Schedule 1 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, which means the pills the force has declined to identify are also being treated as a Schedule 1 substance.

Derek Veley, 57, of Greater Napanee — a different county entirely, Lennox and Addington rather than Frontenac — faces a single count of failure to comply with a release order. He is charged with nothing arising from the drugs, the weapon or the stolen property. The only allegation against him is that he was somewhere, or with someone, that a prior court order said he could not be.

What the Force Has Not Said

No criminal organization is named in this file. There is no project name, no reference to a wider network, no claim that either man is connected to anyone beyond each other, and no suggestion that the stolen property was moving through anything more organised than a rural yard.

The force has also not said where the camper trailer, the ATV or the dirt bike came from. Three vehicles is enough volume that somebody reported them missing, and the two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 imply at least two of the three carry individual values above that threshold. None of the complainants has been identified and no timeframe for the thefts has been given.

What release order Veley is alleged to have breached and what the underlying charge was. The next court date for either man.

Not claimed. That any gang, syndicate, outlaw motorcycle club or trafficking network is behind this. The OPP names none, and none is asserted here. The homemade taser is charged as a prohibited device and a weapon for a dangerous purpose — it is not a firearm and no firearm was reported seized.
