A Man Asleep at the Wheel of a Stolen Car, Then the Cruiser He Hit Getting Out: London Police Charge Robert Roth, 42, After Finding 204 Grams of Crystal Meth and 12 Grams of Fentanyl (Reported August 21, 2026)
This file was first reported on Friday, August 21, 2026, on an arrest made eight days earlier — it is not a story that broke today. On August 13 somebody in London’s north end looked into a parked car, saw a man unconscious at the wheel, and called it in as a welfare concern. What the London Police Service says it found instead was a stolen vehicle wearing plates that did not belong to it, a driver already banned from driving by more than one court, and a little over two hundred grams of crystal methamphetamine.
The call came in to the London Police Service Uniformed Division on August 13, 2026, from a concerned citizen who had seen an unconscious male behind the wheel of a vehicle in the area of Arbour Glen Crescent and Kipps Lane. That corner sits in the city’s north end, in a dense pocket of low-rise apartment blocks off Adelaide Street North.
Police say the man woke while officers were dealing with him and tried to leave — striking a police cruiser in the attempt. He was arrested after resisting.
What Was in the Car
The seizure inventory is the part of this file that makes it more than a traffic matter. Two hundred and four grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine is not a personal-use quantity, and the twelve grams of suspected fentanyl beside it is a separate drug on a separate schedule — which is why police laid two trafficking counts rather than one.
The supporting items are the ones prosecutors lean on to establish purpose: a scale and packaging baggies. Also seized was a speed-measuring warning device — a radar detector — possession of which is itself a provincial offence in Ontario.
Seized at the Scene
- 204 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- 12 grams of suspected fentanyl
- A scale
- Packaging baggies
- A speed-measuring warning device
- The vehicle itself, confirmed stolen and carrying unauthorized plates
The Status the Accused Was Already In
Police say the man was wanted on outstanding warrants at the time officers found him, and that he was bound by multiple court-imposed driving prohibitions. That is the detail that changes the shape of the charge sheet: an operation-while-prohibited count sits on top of the drug counts, and so does the impaired operation count arising from the original call.
Robert Matthew Toms Roth, 42, of London faces:
The Charges
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — two counts
- Impaired operation
- Operation while prohibited
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Resist arrest
- Use of unauthorized plates
- Driving with a speed-measuring warning device
He remains in custody. His next court date in London is August 24, 2026. None of the allegations has been tested in court.

Source: the London Police Service release, opened and read, and confirmed against the force’s own news index.
Missing. The street value police assign to the methamphetamine and the fentanyl. What the outstanding warrants were for. How many driving prohibitions the accused was under and from which courts. The make and model of the stolen vehicle and where it was taken from. Whether the cruiser struck was occupied and whether any officer was hurt. Whether the fentanyl and the methamphetamine were packaged for separate distribution.
Not claimed. That any criminal organization, street group, outlaw motorcycle club or trafficking network is connected to this file. London police have named none. This briefing carries the offence on its own facts — a two-drug commercial quantity with a scale and packaging — and nothing more.
Update trigger. The outcome of the August 24 appearance, any bail decision, any upgrade of the charges once the drugs are analysed, or any statement linking this seizure to a wider supply file.
