Saint-Jérôme Tactical Intercept: SPVM Sex Offender Unit Captures Serial Predator Mario Charette After Multi-Day Manhunt
SAINT-JÉRÔME & MONTRÉAL — A high-priority manhunt across southern Quebec ended when tactical surveillance officers from the SPVM Sex Offender Surveillance Unit (ESDS) intercepted and arrested serial predator Mario Charette.
The 65-year-old repeat offender—who has compiled over 80 prior criminal convictions including multiple federal prison terms—went on the run after breaching statutory supervision conditions in Montreal. SPVM operators, acting on public tips and digital tracking vectors, cornered Charette in Saint-Jérôme, located approximately 45 kilometers northwest of Montreal.
High-Risk Offender Intercepted
The arrest went down at approximately 9:20 p.m. as ESDS surveillance teams moved in to disarm and isolate the fugitive. Charette had severed contact with Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) parole supervisors, marking the seventh time in his criminal history that he entered illegal flight status.
Charette’s multi-decade record includes convictions for violent predatory attacks in 1983, 1988, 1992, 1995, 2014, and 2025. Following his capture, he was immediately processed and remanded back into federal penitentiary custody under high-security guard.
