Mississauga Delivery Driver Execution: Fugitive Devaunte Thompson Captured in Toronto on Canada-Wide Warrant

MISSISSAUGA — Peel Regional Police Homicide detectives have unsealed the capture of a fugitive wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the fatal 2023 carjacking of food delivery driver Gurvinder Nath.

The arrest of 26-year-old Devaunte Thompson of Caledon closes a long-running homicide manhunt following a violent street ambush in Mississauga. Thompson was located and tackled by tactical officers in Toronto before being remanded into judicial custody.

The Fatal Britannia Road Ambush

The homicide file tracks back to the early morning hours of July 9, 2023. Gurvinder Nath, a 24-year-old Brampton resident working a delivery shift, arrived at a commercial order location near Britannia Road and Creditview Road in Mississauga shortly after 2:00 a.m.

Upon stepping out of his vehicle, Nath was violently ambushed and struck on the head by suspects who stole his vehicle and fled. Nath was rushed to a regional trauma centre, where he succumbed to severe head trauma. The first primary suspect, Jazaine Kerr (23) of Mississauga, was arrested in February 2024 and charged with Second-Degree Murder and firearms offences.

Remanded on Second-Degree Murder

Thompson was processed through the Ontario Court of Justice bail system, where prosecutors remanded him in custody alongside co-defendant Kerr. Peel Homicide detectives continue analyzing vehicle theft logistics tied to the cell.
